Multacom
and China Unicom launch landmark venture to provide
broadband network services between the US and China
City
of Industry, CA - January 15, 2001 - Multa Communications
Corporation (Multacom), a Los Angeles-based, multinational,
broadband network service provider, announced today
that it now offers broadband direct capability between
the United States and Mainland China.
With
the completion of this Trans-Pacific connection, identified
as MultaNet China, Multacom becomes one of the first
companies to connect China to the U.S. over a direct
fiber optic circuit. Emphasizing the quality of its
connection, Multacom plans to lease its broadband capacity
to businesses seeking to expand into the Chinese market.
Gordon
Santee, Vice President of Operations at Multacom, oversaw
the testing phase of the Trans-Pacific cable. Santee
observed that, "MultaNet China is the first joint-venture
between China Unicom and a US company. We are all extremely
pleased with the quality of the connection we have with
China Unicom. With an average latency of between 120-140
milliseconds, we have opened the door for corporations
that need the fastest, most secure network connection
to China."
Multacom
and China Unicom entered into a bilateral marketing
agreement for the joint ownership of the fiber circuit.
Multacom's
high-capacity circuit to China enables multinational
corporations in both China and the U.S. to transmit
large volumes of bandwidth-intensive data, including
multimedia and graphics applications or voice traffic,
more effectively and securely between the two countries.
Multacom anticipates high demand for this unique connection,
which strategically positions the company for future
network growth and product offerings throughout the
world.
